Welcome to Scrapdragon Metalarts!

Scrapdragon Metalarts features the sculpture of artist Troy Guern. Each sculpture is a one of a kind piece, meticulously crafted from everyday metal objects and scrap, then painted to give each creature a personality all its own.

Troy, who was born in the small Nebraska town of West Point, moved to Lincoln with his family at the age of five, and by that point had already proved his artistic talent. Even at that young age, he was improving his skills, inspired by Jim Henson's Sesame Street and other creative PBS shows, supported by his parents with supplies, camps and classes, and dreaming of being an artist, cartoonist or architect. Until after high school, he'd never even considered welding or metalwork. Then, he got an apprenticeship with a wrought iron artist named Bob Johnson and everything changed.

Troy works with many of his favorite mediums every day during his professional career as a sign-builder. He uses many of those same skills when creating the fantastical creatures that populate the world of Scrapdragons. He has also participated in civic art projects, such as the Tour de Lincoln (take a look at Schwinns for Fins and No Net!) and this year's Star Art project. Along with his wife Kendra, who is his business manager, he operates the Scrapdragon Metalarts business, attending Rennaissance Festivals, art shows, and occasionally appearing in local galleries. Troy and Kendra make their home in Lincoln, NE, and when they're not busy with their many artistic endeavors, they are kept running by their three boys. And with 11 years experience as a sign-builder, seven years of making custom iron sculptures, and four years as an established artist, he still remembers a piece of advice someone gave him many years ago: "Pick what it is that you like to do the most and don’t do it for a living!" What a bunch of scrap!
